Livable Centers Initiative, Stone Mountain, GA

A quaint community with great potential, Stone Mountain is an Atlanta suburb named for the prominent granite mountain that looms on the edge of the city. Well known for its emphasis on the arts, the city has worked diligently to capitalize on its proximity to one of Georgia’s most popular visitor attractions, while trying to overcome high unemployment and declining property values caused by the recession of the last decade.

LSL was retained to assist the city with the 10 year update of its Livable Centers Initiative (LCI) plan, a program sponsored by the Atlanta Regional Commission. Key elements of the ambitious plan included transportation improvements, increased connectivity for pedestrians and cyclists, greater housing options and a market strategy to strengthen the downtown business district and capture a share of the 4 million annual visitors to the Stone Mountain Park.
