Joint Ordinances, La Porte Cnty, MI

Joint set of of zoning and subdivision control ordinances

After developing a multi-jurisdiction comprehensive plan, La Porte County, the City of La Porte, and the City of Michigan City decided to take the next step and develop a joint set of zoning and subdivision control ordinances. LSL Planning and Williams Creek Consulting worked with the county and the two cities to develop an ordinance that met the needs of all three jurisdictions, was user-friendly, and met the objectives of the coastal management program that funded part of the effort. A technical committee and a steering committee provided input and comments to the draft ordinances as they were developed. Issues covered included coastal areas, beachfront development, downtowns, industrial development, signs, wind energy, and farmland preservation.
