Downtown Transportation Plan
LSL Planning led a multi-disciplinary team charged with developing a transportation plan for Downtown Findlay. This collaboration with Findlay- Hancock Economic Alliance was spurred in part by an announced $80 million expansion of Marathon Petroleum Company’s downtown campus. Marathon cited the need for a more vibrant, walkable downtown to retain and attract young professionals. This is the first phase of what will be a Downtown Strategic Plan.
First, we modeled existing traffic operations and parking. Then we engaged numerous stakeholders to identify, visualize, and evaluate a wide range of alternatives including road diets, reverse angled parking and new street patterns. After a series of meetings and presentations, a preferred transportation plan was endorsed, including streetscape improvements, curb bumpouts, medians, intersection improvements, and cycle track.
Once the plan was endorsed, LSL Planning helped prepare grant requests for funding. In spring 2014, the Ohio DOT awarded $2.4 million toward implementation. Marathon Petroleum offered to match that amount. Final design began just nine months after our project began.
